Lot Essay

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5275P is an example of exemplary horological watchmaking. The Patek Philippe 5275P is a chiming jump hour timepiece, released in a limited edition of 175, in honour of the firm’s 175th anniversary. The present reference was one of six new references released by the manufacture in celebration of their milestone.

Inspired by the Patek Philippe Ref. 3969, a vintage jump hour wristwatch created in 1989, the reference 5275P is an iconic and beautiful modern take on the Ref. 3969. The ref. 5275P is powered by the manually-wound Caliber 32-650 HGS PS, featuring four new patents:
- Isolation of Hour Strike Mechanism for “Turning Off” the Chime
- Jumping Mechanism with Coaxial Wheels for the Jumping Seconds
- Jumping Mechanism with Coaxial Wheels for the Hour Function
- Mechanism for Synchronising Two Jumping Indications for synchronising the seconds and minute hands.

The present timepiece offers the discerning collector a chance to purchase a horological masterpiece created by Patek Philippe in an uncommon case and complication for the storied brand of Patek Philippe. The retail price of this reference was CHF310,000. Less than 10 examples have appeared at the auctions since the launch of the reference in 2014, a fresh to the market and in unworn condition example sold for $907,200 in June 2022 at the Important Watches Of Exceptional Provenance, Featuring The Kairos Collection Part III, New York.
