Lot Essay

The Opera 1 features two very intricate and unique complications: the brand’s signature golden bridge tourbillon and a minute repeater with Westminster chime on four gongs. Unlike a normal minute repeater, a Westminster chime is unique because it requires multiple gongs and hammers to replicate the peal of bells that ring out from the Houses of Parliament in London. Furthermore, the Opera 1 was named Swiss Watch of the Year by Montres Passion in 1999 and The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry awarded this model the Special Jury Prize.

This watch is further differentiated by the fact that it is possibly a custom order timepiece, featuring a most stunning baguette diamond bezel. The scintillating diamonds add another layer of allure to this watch, accentuating the skeletonised dial with its spinning tourbillon. Most impressively, this is all demonstrated with a case of 39 mm; a most commendable achievement given the level of complicated watchmaking and diamond-setting required to create such a piece.
