The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This group of eight portrait heads are executed on panels each comprised of two boards and supported by cradles on the reverses. The panels are stable although some exhibit slight bowing and further splits, mostly along the upper edges. The paint layers are stable and each exhibit an uneven craquelure under a clear high gloss varnish. Restorations along the panel joins and the aforementioned splits are visible in natural light and in the catalogue images. Restorations in the flesh tones of each figure and scattered in their clothing are visible in natural light. Beneath the paint layers on each panel under drawings are visible along the contours of the sitters facial features. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals multiple campaigns of restoration and some areas of strengthening, especially in the feathers of the headdresses and the visible curls of the figures. The panels present well and are offered unframed.
