Lot Essay

The Reference 5070 was launched in 1998 and is said to be inspired by Ref. 2512, a mid-20th century split-seconds chronograph from the brand. The watch follows in a long illustrious line of manually-wound chronographs from the venerable Swiss brand.

The first series of the Ref. 5070 was cased in yellow gold, then white gold in 2001 followed by pink gold and finally platinum. Each colour was made in approximately 1000 examples, except for platinum which was in a lesser quantity of approximately 500 examples.

With a substantial case width of 42 mm., it one of the bigger watches (in terms of case size)ever produced by Patek Philippe. This present lot has been consigned by the original owner and is preserved in excellent overall condition and is sold with the full set of accessories.
