Sale Overview

THE PARIS JOAILLERIE SALE ACHIEVED €10.5 MILLION / $11.8 MILLION AND SET THE HIGHEST TOTAL EVER FOR ANY JEWELLERY ONLINE SALE ANY JEWELLERY AUCTION IN PARIS (LIVE AND ONLINE)

The sale which took place online from 30 November to 14 December, achieved a total of €10,496,750 million / $11,786,754 million selling 86% by lot and 100% by value, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate. Leading the sale was a Boucheron ruby ring weighing 7.05 carats which fetched €980,000/$1,100,438, selling 10 ten times its pre-sale estimate.

Further highlights included a magnificent Cartier Belle Epoque diamond bow brooch, featuring a 4.92 carats old-cut cushion diamond, sold for €375,000/$422,995 against a pre-sale estimate of €150,000-200,000.

Notable results were also achieved for two exceptional Jean Fouquet necklaces. Following the success of another necklace by the same designer sold last July establishing a new world auction record selling for €980,000, a superb aquamarine and coral necklace by the Parisian Art Deco jeweler was acquired for €300,000/$338,396.

Further much anticipated vintage pieces have fully met their expectations. A sumptuous retro tank bracelet by Boucheron was acquired for €62,500/$70,499 and a stunning Art Deco 1929 Tutti Frutti clip by Mauboussin achieved €60,000/$67,679, both surpassing their estimates by more than six times.

The sale has reaffirmed the collector’s attention to Van Cleef & Arpels’s quality of workmanship, well embodied by the iconic “mystery setting” patented by the company 88 years ago. A pair of “mystery set” ruby and diamond “Poppy earing” reached €225,000 closely followed by a brooch using the same technique which sold for €175,000. Also emblematic of Van Cleef’s exceptional know how, a transformable lapis lazuli and diamond necklace reached €137,500 more than 3 times its high pre-sale estimate. Similarly, a set of earrings and a transformable necklace reached €175,000. The result achieved for a diamond and sapphire “Pelouse bracelet” sold for €112,500 against a pre-sale estimate of €15,000-20,000.
