The Christie’s Rare Watches New York: Online auction will feature incredible rarities. Timeless works from the Patek Philippe, Cartier and Vacheron Constantin manufactures that are amongst the most coveted timepieces in the market.
An important auction showcasing the strength of the market and our specialists, the sale will include a superb Cartier Mystery clock known as “Model A”. Manufactured in 1919, the timepiece is an exceptionally rare and early example of the first type of mystery clock created by Louis Cartier and master clockmaker Maurice Coüet (1885-1963). Preserved in excellent overall condition and sold with a Cartier Certificate, it represents the rare opportunity of acquiring one of the house’s most iconic timepieces.
Very strong in terms of Patek Philippe, the sale will feature the iconic references 3448, 1463, 1518 and 2499. Of particular interest, the reference 3448 is crafted in one of the most coveted metals for the reference, white gold. Introduced to the market in 1962, the reference 3448 was the first automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch produced in series by any manufacturer and is the prefect embodiment of a transitional period in the evolution of watchmaking design. With the 1950s and 60s a new trend took shape: the technological advances of the time inspired, in all fields of design, futuristic shapes and cleaner looks.
